It is a well-known phenomenon that water is the fundamental right of every creature. Water plays a big role in one's life in this world. It is the most important thing for every living creature and without it, we can't live. Water is a basic right for all living creatures. It can be used for multiple purposes. The recent shortage of pure water made lives so difficult and this problem is making people more depressed day by day, but the government seems silent in such circumstances.
The scarcity of water in Quetta, Gwadar, Turbat, and other parts of Balochistan is the most serious problem faced by dwellers. Almost all districts of the province have been running out of water with the underground water level going down each passing day. The people who are in Balochistan are not taking baths and also not washing clothes for few months even they keep fast in Ramzan and do not get pure and drinkable water. People are requesting the government to provide them with drinkable water, as the country is going to have a greater windfall from China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Nevertheless, in the last two decades, most of the lush green pastures of Balochistan have turned into deserts due to a lack of water.
Water is not available for drinking. The people have to spend half of their income on buying pure water to fulfill their needs. According to the experts, the water level continues to deplete fast in Quetta, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Kalat, Mastung, Khuzdar, Loralai, and other districts of the province. Scarcity of water will force residents of Quetta to migrate to other parts in the future, Kakar warned. Unlike other parts of Pakistan where rivers fed by glaciers exist, in Balochistan, most of the people are dependent on underground water for drinking and agriculture purposes. It is the most important thing for every living creature in the world whether that is an animal, plant, or social animal. But the horrible thing is that the people in Balochistan are deprived of the necessity of life which is water. People should be provided with drinkable water as they are suffering due to an acute water shortage in Balochistan.
Unfortunately, people have been pumping water through tube wells for drinking purposes and agriculture. This has resulted in the fast depletion of the underground water table. People continue to pump water from more than 1,000 feet deep as compared to 200 to 300 feet in the near past. The scarcity of water has forced farmers to abandon their fruit orchards. The number of orchards has considerably decreased in northern and central Balochistan, famous for the production of apples, grapes, and other fruits. Moreover, in Quetta, the number of WASA tube wells is less than 400. Around 100 tube wells are not functional because of various reasons, an official of the WASA said to the news. According to some analysts, it is global warming that is to blame for this. There is a universal consensus that this catastrophe has been brought about because of the impact of humans on the environment. Sensible nations are adopting measures to conserve scarce water resources. Unfortunately, Pakistan has been caught on the wrong foot, it has neither constructed large dams, nor built water reservoirs. As a consequence, it is likely to face severe drought by 2025. It is high time for the government to focus on this serious issue for the residents of Balochistan who are already handling a miserable life.
