Tuesday With Morrie | Mitch Albom | book summary

Tuesday with Morrie book

Tuesday With Morrie is a wonderful book written by Mitch Albom. It was published in 1997. Its nearly 18 million copies have sold and it has been translated into 48 languages.

The story begins with a professor named Morrie and a student named Mitch Albom. Morrie was their favorite professor at Mitch Brandeis University. Morrie was affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which is a dangerous disease. After that disease, Mitch doesn't see him for many years. So one day Mitch was watching TV, there he saw Morrie before he was not aware of Morrie's disease. During the show, Morrie tells about his disease. After being aware of the disease, Mitch calls Morrie to meet with him.

When they met then they said that they would start a discussion each Tuesday on one topic. On the first Tuesday, they talked about the world. In this topic, they talked that how the world is and how the people of the whole world die. On the second Tuesday, they talked about feeling sorry for themselves. In this topic, Mitch asked Morrie have you ever felt sorry yourself? Then Morrie said sometimes in the morning. On the third Tuesday, they talked about regrets. In this topic, Morrie shared that they felt regret for these all which happened to him.

Similarly, on the fourth Tuesday, they communicated about death. In this topic, Morrie said, "Everyone knows that they will die but no one believes it." And also said, "once you learn how to die, you learn how to live."

On the fifth Tuesday, they discussed family. In this topic, both Morrie and Mitch talked about their families. At first, Morrie started talking about his family while he was a child. Mitch does the same as Morrie. On the sixth Tuesday, they spoke about emotions. Here they are talking that if one needs to cry then cry as much as one can. And don't be afraid of people that you are crying. On the seventh Tuesday, they chatted about the fear of aging. Here Mitch asked if we were ever afraid to grow old then Morrie replies no, never because as we grow up, we learn more.

On the eighth Tuesday, they talked about money. In this topic, Morrie said that everyone needs money, houses, and cars but I want that I and everyone should be needy for relationships. If one should keep himself in place of me then he/she would be needy of relations. On the ninth Tuesday, they talked about love. Here the professor talked about the love of his wife and children. On the tenth Tuesday, they talked about marriage. Morrie told to Mitch that everyone had problems with it, some had problems getting into and some had problems getting out of it.

On the eleventh Tuesday, they chatted about their culture. In this topic, they discussed that each religion is having different culture, and they wanted that everyone should follow that but if you think that it is wrong then make your own culture. On the twelfth Tuesday, they talked about forgiveness. In this topic, they said that at first, everyone should forgive themselves because may in the past they have taken a decision and have not done that. On the Thirteenth Tuesday, they talked about the perfect day. Here they were discussing that every day they should walk and attend classes and also that six hours of sleeping can make your day a perfect day. This Tuesday they say goodbye.

The circumstances of Morrie were so bad and Mitch was such a person who was strong from the inside after seeing Morrie's vulnerable condition, Mitch cried. After two days, Morrie went into a coma and then died.

So, it is my request to everyone to read the book which tells us about the world, death, marriage, forgiveness, culture, and the perfect day. I honestly suggest to others to read this book and for getting information about these. It is a wonderful book that starts with a story of a professor and a student and I suggest everyone have a look at this book.
